Boston College High School Students Visit Gonzaga for Cultural Exchange

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – February 20, 2017

Gonzaga Preparatory and Primary School had the privilege of hosting students and staff from Boston College High School, Massachusetts, USA, for a week-long exchange program aimed at fostering global connections and cultural learning. The visit provided students from both institutions with an opportunity to engage in academic, spiritual, and cultural activities, strengthening Jesuit educational ties across borders.

The delegation from Boston College High School comprised 14 students from grades 7-12 and four staff members, led by their Associate Director, Jenny Ehalt. The visitors were warmly welcomed by Sister Elisabeth Syaghuswa, O.D.N., the Head Teacher of Gonzaga, who provided an insightful orientation on the school’s operations, history, and mission.

Throughout their stay, the Boston College students actively participated in classroom visits, allowing them to experience Tanzanian education firsthand and engage with Gonzaga’s students. The program also featured a collaborative retreat with Loyola High School, where students from both institutions reflected on shared Jesuit values, spirituality, and global responsibility.

In addition to academic and spiritual activities, the visitors immersed themselves in Tanzanian culture through host family stays, giving them a deeper appreciation of local traditions, cuisine, and daily life. A highlight of their visit was an unforgettable safari experience, where they explored Tanzania’s rich biodiversity and scenic landscapes.

The exchange program served as a bridge between students from different backgrounds, reinforcing the Jesuit commitment to holistic education, cultural exchange, and service. It was a testament to Gonzaga’s dedication to fostering global citizenship and meaningful partnerships with Jesuit institutions worldwide.

As the visit concluded, both Gonzaga and Boston College High School students expressed gratitude for the enriching experience and looked forward to continued collaborations in the future. The exchange left a lasting impact, inspiring students to embrace diversity and contribute positively to their communities.
