Foundation
Founders and Key Contributors
The establishment of Gonzaga Preparatory and Primary School in 2008 is a story rooted in compassion, faith, and the Jesuit mission to serve others. The school’s foundation is the result of the visionary efforts of dedicated individuals and organizations who were deeply committed to transforming the lives of vulnerable children through education.

The Visionaries Behind Gonzaga’s Foundation
The idea for Gonzaga Preparatory and Primary School emerged during a significant event in 2005: the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Loyola High School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It was during this occasion that Mr. Patrick Doherty, his wife Mrs. Maureen Doherty, and their daughter Siobhan Doherty traveled from Canada to Tanzania. They were accompanied by Father Joe Daoust, S.J., along with other dedicated friends from the Our Lady Queen of Peace Foundation, Inc. Canada.

During their visit, the Doherty family and their companions were deeply moved by the challenging conditions faced by children at an orphanage center in Mabibo, where Loyola High School students conducted community service activities. Witnessing firsthand the harsh realities of poverty and the lack of educational opportunities for these children, the Dohertys felt compelled to act. This life-changing experience planted the seed for a transformative educational project.
The Role of the Jesuit Fathers
Central to the establishment of Gonzaga was the active involvement of the Jesuit Fathers, whose mission has always been grounded in the principles of education, faith, and justice. The Jesuits working in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma were already deeply engaged in educational and community service initiatives. Their partnership with the Doherty family and the Our Lady Queen of Peace Foundation created a powerful alliance focused on providing holistic education to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Jesuits provided not only spiritual guidance but also the organizational framework necessary for the school’s development. Their long-standing tradition of educational excellence and commitment to social justice became the bedrock upon which Gonzaga was built. This partnership exemplified the Jesuit ethos of collaboration for the greater good.
Our Lady Queen of Peace Foundation, Inc. Canada
The involvement of the Our Lady Queen of Peace Foundation, Inc. Canada was instrumental in bringing Gonzaga to life. This foundation, dedicated to supporting educational and humanitarian projects worldwide, played a pivotal role in fundraising, resource mobilization, and providing ongoing support for the school’s infrastructure and operations.

Their commitment went beyond financial assistance. The foundation actively engaged in the planning and implementation of the school’s construction, ensuring that the facilities met the highest standards for a conducive learning environment. Their continued partnership has been vital in sustaining Gonzaga’s growth and success.
